This is the smartphone era and here we are discussing two platforms which are leaders in the global market.

 

iOS by Apple or Android by Google.

 

Till second quarter of 2014, around 1 billion people had smartphones out of which android has highest 80.2% market share and iOS at second place with a 14.8 % market share. According to Forbes, Android will touch the market share of 85% till the end of 2014 and iOS will sit at around 12%.

iOS or Android has been a debate topic most of the time as new updates arrive. We have come with various facts and statistics about android and iOS in different perspective.

 

Apple’s iOS has leadership in 38 countries which are developed nations and have disposed high income while Android is mostly opted in emerging countries with low per capita income and till the April, 2014 with leadership in 135 countries. The reason behind it is that Android devices are available at low prices while iOS devices have higher costs.

 

If we discuss developer’s perspective, 34.4% developers choose android as their primary platform choice while 32.7% developers choose iOS. After development, for publishing any app on iTunes, it charges $99 per year and approves the app within 1-2 weeks while for publishing any app on Google Play Store, it charges $25 per year and takes 6-9 hours to approve the app.

 

There were 1.4 million android apps have been published till Oct, 2014 out of which 85% apps are available for free, while only 25% apps are free out of 1.3 million iOS apps. Thus, we can conclude that iOS apps generate more revenue than android apps that is $100 million by iOS apps and $60 million by android apps. If we calculate average revenue generated per app, one iOS app makes $1 while one android app generates $0.19.

 

Developers can easily make their apps backwards compatible, On iOS most apps are available to almost all of its users, that uses an apple Products such as (iPod, iPhone, and iPad), a developer can earn more money. Apple products have been more secure, consistent and reliable.
